Winners of the Kathryn Miles Poster Competition 2009

In line with Helapet’s continued commitment to education and the development of its staff and customers, we were once more delighted to sponsor the Kathryn Miles Poster Award in collaboration with the Association of Pharmacy Technicians.

Posters were presented at the APT conference and exhibition 2009 which was held in Cardiff, and were judged for content, clarity, originality and visual impact.

Many congratulations to Victoria Brereton who was presented with 1st prize for her poster entitled: 'Comprehensive Training Manuals for Aseptic Services'. Victoria is chief pharmacy technician for the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

2nd prize was awarded to Derek Ford for his poster entitled 'The implementation of an automated medication storage and dispensing system within the acute medical unit (AMU) – Ninewells Hospital, Dundee'.

3rd prize went to Allan Malone for his poster 'To assess the suitability of the new medical gas store to meet clinical demands at the national Hospital for neurology and neurosurgery'. Allan is based at the University College Hospital in London.

'The Helapet Award for Independent Study' In line with Helapet's continued commitment to education and the development of its staff and customers, we are delighted to present once again, the Helapet Awards for Independent Study in collaboration with the University of Derby.

The award for Best Independent Study 2009 for aseptic services was presented to Chimene Morgan who is the Chief Technician for CIVAS at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, North London, at a special presentation held at the University of Derby on the 7th February. This was in recognition of her work 'Training programme for the pharmacy technical services unit' The award for Best Independent Study 2009 for Clinical Pharmacy was awarded to Gillian Wiseman from the North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust for her module 5 project on 'Development and implementation of a training procedure for patient counselling on discharge medication'. Many congratulations to Chimene and Gillian who have been studying the University of Derby BTEC professional Diploma whilst working in aseptic service units.

SteriClean a success at BOPA Glasgow

Thank you to all who took the time to visit us on stand 39, at BOPA Glasgow.

We were delighted to meet so many people who wanted to see and try the newSteriClean Alcohol Sprays for themselves.

The new exhibition stand graphics looked really great and can next be seen again in the new year.

ABPI Award

Congratulations to Dr Sara Hiom from the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust who has won a prestigious ABPI award for innovative practice. This is in recognition for the work she has carried out over the last year on validating aseptic processes in hospital pharmacies.

Helapet have been working closely with Sara to produce a validation kit to complement her test procedures. It is hoped that these new standard operating procedures will be widely adopted across the UK as it has now been proven to be the best method for validating aseptic processes from storage through 2 transfers.
